Running is a big question mark that’s there each and every day. It asks you, ‘Are you going to be a wimp or are you going to be strong today?' - Peter Maher, Irish-Canadian Olympian

Wanted: Running partner for greyhound

When I started running, my goal was to be able to run 3 miles in 30 minutes. Almost 4 years later, I am still not there. So, I thought to myself, maybe I am just not cut out for anything faster than an 11 m/m. That's ok. Maybe my forte is distance. I will be one of those people who run at a snail's pace but can go forever. This morning I have decided I am neither. I am truly mediocre. Cosmo deserves a better running partner :-/

Oh my gosh, don't feel down! I read your weekly tallies, and you are more active than 90% of the people I know! I'm sure your doggie is more than happy jogging with you! =)

Are you going to the ploughshares fair by any chance? Daiku and I will be volunteering with the peace council today (Saturday).

Three miles is very admirable!

I consider myself a long distance walker. :-)

Good grief. You sound like ME. And you DON'T want to go there! Ease up on yourself. You are doing the best that you can.

Running is one of those "a little at at time things". We start out with a half block, then we go 3 blocks, then 5, soon a mile, then a mile and a half..etc etc etc...and this is exactly how it's gone for me in my running years.

Not counting the ones where I backslid due to sloth or injury and pretty much had to start from scratch. But eventually I got there again. It was frustrating, though, and I felt (and still oFTEN feel) like you are feeling right now. Many times during races I have to say "Run your own race and stop worrying about what the other runners are doing."

Also, you can not be "mediocre" with it if you are out there DOING IT.

The mediocre people are the ones that think about doing it but never do it. Sounds harsh, but that's what I think. Holds true for a lot of things in life.

Keep plugging and don't worry about your speed. Do you enjoy it? Does it make you feel good? Do you have ANY sense of accomplishment when you are done? These are your reasons for getting out there.

You are in the 2% just by doing it. Rememember that.

Peptalk over!

You know that you can not say that!!!! You are the one, the only one at the time, that believed that I could even think about running!!! And because of you and your help, I believe that I could even think of attempting to do a TRI!!! You do alot more than any fast runner. You have the courage and the determination to teach people to run and to stay with it. Look at Sherrie, Sherry, Melissa, Kris, Shannon and I.....because of you and your help, we run!!! It does not matter how fast....we run!!!

I am certain, for Cosmo, that it is the quality not the quantity of the runs. You run with him out of love and that is something noone can replace! Plus think of how you have done the same for all us human greyhounds that still look forward to running with you:)
