Running is a big question mark that’s there each and every day. It asks you, ‘Are you going to be a wimp or are you going to be strong today?' - Peter Maher, Irish-Canadian Olympian

Not the bee's knees

My weak point is usually my feet but my right knee has been bothering me for about a week. The inside of my knee was tender to the touch (I was showing a client how to use the hip adductor and I thought I was going to come right up off the seat trying to press the pads inwards).

Today, it was 0 degrees when I woke up so I decided to treadmill it at the Y before meeting another client. I got through two miles before having to stop. Now my knee is sore continually, it hurts to walk and to bend.

I hate going to the doctor's because my usual experience is they don't do a hell of a lot but I am making an appointment tomorrow morning. The Midwinter Blues Run is Feb. 4 and Tipp Hill is a month later. If I can't run those, well, I am not going to be happy.

As an addendum, all my internet research hasn't turned up any plausible explanation for the knee pain. That sucks. It is partly the reason why I don't go to the doctor's. Why waste time and money when it is easier and quicker to self-diagnose? I am usually better at it too :-)

Hi Trac,

I've been traveling and just stopped by to catch up on your blog a bit. I'm sorry to hear about your knee. I know those doctors can be pretty useless, but I hope they can order a scan or something and fix it.

I loved your Wal-Mart/Target post. I avoid Wal-Mart too. They just creep me out. How weird about the door lady at Target, though! People never cease to amaze me.

You might try going to RunnersWorld.com and looking at the diagram they have for "isolate your pain". Click on the knee link and see if any of those fit your symptoms. Illiotibal band is a big culprit. Also something lalalaal patellar something or other. Use ice. A lot. That will help.

BTW..how do I get my sidebar to have my entries with bullets like yours are? I have been fiddling with this for ages and can't make it work out...

I checked out Lucy.com. OMG! The clothes are gorgeous. I could spend a fortune there! Because, you know, I am only one well coordinated, complementary outfit away from being 'front of the pack'.

I think the bullets come from the template chosen. I didn't do anything special, just the usual
'add page element' in the customize tab. I think your template uses the little sideways arrows to delineate your headers but doesn't bullet individual items. You could always change your template. I think with the new betablogger, if you change templates, you won't lose all your customized changes like the old blogger (but don't take my word for it).

As far as my knee goes - of course if I had to have something go wrong, it would be a freak thing. I did check out runnersworld.com and a couple of other sites. It seems that itb affects the outside of the knee and the lalalal patelaa thing is usually located around the kneecap, behind and below it. My pain is very much on the inside of my knee. I probably have just plain old tendonitis of which the cure is? Yep, no running. Boo hiss.....
